The 23rd Psalm was my mothers favorite. She was schooled in the 1930’s in parochial boarding school. She grew up in a time of extreme social prejudice’s, which she transcended with dignity and grace. Through out her life this Psalm was her solace. And when she experience loss and grief, it was her strength.
Dear Momma,
The opportunity and the gift of life, you gave to me. You bestowed upon me the wealth of your wisdom and insight, grace and poise, for these I thank you. I honor you for giving to me this life and for all the life- times we have shared.
I dedicate this article to you,
Your loving daughter
THE 23rd PSALM
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pasture; he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever
As a witness in life, gifted as I am. I am compelled to decipher this beautiful prophesy so that others may see the innocent truth imparted to us through the visionary prophets of old. The Psalms are credited to the mystical warrior King David, slayer of the giant Goliath of Gath, David was the father of Solomon who was the builder of the Temple of Jerusalem. But the significant thing as I deem, is that David slew Goliath with a sling shot throw of a stone, invoking the name of God, demonstrating his power of faith in the miraculous source of all.
I see the conscious power behind Creation as the same source that has always been. I know that we all are the children of the greatest power in the universe, and that we are here in this world, to master our understanding of that power. I also believe that the Universal Power is the loving power of all life, and this is the very reason to understand from where we came and our purpose in being.
In the days of King David the shepherd was the most trusted and revered person in the community, the all powerful. He watched over the sustaining elements for the entire community, watching and protecting all in his charge. To liken the Lord to a shepherd is to say he was the one responsible for the well being of all the inhabitants in his care, man and beast, the one relied upon. He was the source of life in a very practical sense of the word.
The sheep were very important for without sheep there would be no warm blankets or cloaks, bedding or tents, rugs or insulation. The shepherd guided them to sustaining pastures and kept them safe, so that they could fulfill their purpose of provision for the community. The sheep had no worry, for the shepherd was ever vigilant for the good of all. The sheep had only to grow out their wool in splendor and grace, and trust in the presence of the Shepherd.
Timid though the sheep may become while upon the trail of new terrain, amidst foriegn smells that stimulate the senses to an acute state, the shepherd always leads them to safety protecting them from harm. The righteousness of knowing intrusted upon Shepherd.
All any of us needs to do is trust that which is provided and nourish ourselves from the source, or so the story goes…
The valley of the shadow of death, the curtain born of anxiety and doubt spilling from our consciousness, enveloping us in our fears of perishability. The physical perception, daunting our trust, clouding the higher minded celestial reason intended to be the canopy of higher consciousness. Our fear blinding us, causing us to forget the sustaining power of the Shepherd who is the provider, and sublime guardian.
The wondrous implementing power of the universe, has instilled in each us, the very principal of life, making our individual character the ROD and the implementing power of strength vested in us, our dominion that flourishes as our tree of life. We are supported in the Greater consciousness by the mighty essence of the living Spirit, the elements of the Divine mind guiding us through the universal matrix, in the same way the shepherd would prod his sheep with his STAFF, and safeguard and protect them from harm.
We find within us and all around us the miraculous power of living Spirit.
It is the fear born of undeveloped faith and limited understanding that causes us to believe in enemies. Our worries and doubts preventing us from seeing the miraculousness in universal All. These limited views send us running onto the battlefields of life. We loose our ability to see the tesimony of worldly opulence that surrounding us. The table is fully prepared for us as sovereign beings, we chosen as kings, in the annointing birth into this world. The crown of glory that is the life given to us by the infinite source.
The cup runneth over…the alter of the heart, the golden fountain of supply that is the chamber in the heart, the holy grail of life. We are the receptive vessles, the lambs provided for, in totality, so that we can fulfill our understanding of the goodwill and divine intent of all, and the loving impetus that is the gift, not only of life but the purpose of life as well.
If we look at the clear evidence of life in relation to the universal reality. It is apparent that all is inspired, evident that the word of God IS inspiration, and inspiration is the compelling reason of all. The only loss possible is our failure to realize what is evident.
If our souls are born into the abundant consciousness of greater, then they must also be of the abundant consciousness, therefore …..” Aspire as a King unto the Kindom” or so I have been told.
